Valentine’s Day This Year
Same day service
wedding gown.
I bought it
Two hours ago. Brand new
and I’m wearing it
Now. The music plays.
The church is old
Ageless and freezing cold.
I notice none of it.
I love you so.

I like the way that this poem suggests a much wider narrative and provokes questions about the narrator but it all distills down to those last two lines. All of that noise in life is easier to quiet when you have someone to love and who loves you too.
Sometimes I think I don’t write poetry but instead tiny short stories. I like this one, I hope for this kind of ending for all of us, in all the different ways we can find it.
