Poetry is Written in Words: Four

Poems from my Merriam-Webster Word of the Day project. For more information, look here.

prescience : foreknowledge of events

why the tree leafs out
despite prescience of winter
and bare black branches?

haiku 1015 : 6/21/22

conciliate : APPEASE

My hands in wool gloves
the numbing cold of winter
To conciliate
stiff tight fingers I clench them
Open them. They are not fooled.

tanka 332 : 9/7/22

abide : to remain stable or fixed in a state

the old tree hiding
in vain. Winter abiding
teeth bared and biting

haiku 1042 : 10/22/22
