A Truly Bad Cook
Metal prices and grain futures
went into its composition
Dark angles marked out the burn lines
under the glow of red-hot wires
Surface undulations like lumps in soil
Internal signals pointing awry and crashing
and of course
scorch marks:
My favorite cake
in the pan
settled itself in the oven
The next carnage awaits.

Haha! My mother was wonderful but she was death and destruction when it came to baking cakes!! I couldn’t help but laugh. And the thing is she never stopped trying!!
Some people have a magic touch in cooking: the destruction one! I admire your mom for perservering!
I am doing some baking today and this poem made me laugh – I have not created any carnage though!
I’ve read about your baking and cooking and I have seen the photos! And I know you are great at it. No carnage!
