Not Tonight
the kingpin is a quite a cat
decked out and
set to be cruising in the sax fab sounds
spilling out the nightclub doors
at yeh o’clock
High minds loosen up and stretch
strung like light bulbs on the slow-swaying wires
looping out and over the glossy neon streets
The people parade through the glitter and the heat
Drink in the smell of smoke
Marvel at the haze in the sky turning the moon pink.
Troubled thoughts – those are for tomorrow –
let them go
tonight
the kingpin is you
decked out and set to be cruising
stepping soft on the neon streets

This created such an image in my head!
Thank you. I like the idea that once in a while you can just let go and let tomorrow wait for tomorrow.
You’re welcome. Yes. 🙂
I really love the way the rhythm and cadence of your words mirrors the jazz music referenced in the poem.
Thank you. I have described a night in an alternative universe where I am quite different, or maybe just letting out a different side.
