This Is When the Branch First Began to Split
I just don’t like all these changes
the orange drink in the glass bottle
fizzes and pops
sitting at the counter eating a bowl of noodle soup
deny anything’s that much different
Well that’s not what I think
and after that we pretty much just
ate our lunches and sat quiet

The quiet tension in this poem is palpable.
Thank you. I think in these times this kind of below the surface strain is everywhere even when people have been in harmony up to now for a long time.
If not for the title I’d have thought this was an agree to disagree moment…
Well, it certainly could be, but in my experience agreeing to disagree can often be the first indication of diverging paths (depending, of course,how big or what the issue is they agree to disagree over!).
