I feel that second poem deep in my bones. I just received an email from the parent of one of my students asking me something completely trifling that can definitely wait. I was tempted to reply with “out of office”.
Yes. People feel their need to communicate with you always overrides your need to keep the door shut on the world. I find it painful when I am wrenched out of wherever I am to answer to someone like this.
