From the collection And Don’t Come Back, 2021.
In Which I Participate in the Unsolving
The restless cat underfoot
the truncated chiming of the clock
the paperwork you left behind.
Unaware and secretive
an interesting combination –
Any chance you’ll be back?
I think not but just in case
I shoo the cat into the hall
No, I don’t need a witness.

A mysterious poem. I was intrigued by the title.
Thank you. I like the possibilities in this little un-story. And of course to me a cat, well, there is no better symbol for knowing and holding secrets, I think.
True. (Though maybe not for my own cat.)
Nefarious doings when even a cat cannot be permitted as a witness, even when they might be a worthy accomplice!
Yes. I do like a story with lots of layers, and possibilities, and in this one, I fee like it’s especially intriguing, because to me, any cat can keep any secret, so…this must be something very interesting…I enjoy speculating…
There is something especially fitting about the slinkiness of a cat that makes it the perfect companion for this furtive kind of activity.
Ah, the cat, the sidekick that we would all want for things we might not like to be too public. I think any cat can keep any secret.
Cat can keep secrets and also hold the power of that secret knowledge over you.
Yes. I feel these both, also.
