Tell me You don’t care
and the deep voice
underlined the words

strangers at the table-
One spare,
one meant to catch a bouquet of poison

heavy rain
overgrown foliage
here in the house

It’s a big city I realized
Too big
I closed the book.

  1. These are all great. #261 is very poignant. I imagine an abandoned home reflecting on its final farewells. #262 speaks to something I recognized about myself a few years ago: I am no longer a city person. I have no desire to ever live in a city again even though I once loved doing so.

    • I’ve seen quite a few abandined homes in my time, of course, and I think every one of them is feeling sad at what it has come to, no matter how it happened. And I never lived in the city, and I never wanted to. Even thinking about it – no. I would certainly close the book. But living near a big city? Always.
