Repeat Beginning

Repeat Beginning

Morning. I crawl out of my cubbyhole
of an apartment. Watch from the fishbowl
of steamy bus window the grand unscroll
of murderous traffic in a star role.
Arrive at my desk. Hold on to my soul.

  1. I really like the idea of the narrator moving from one confined space to another as their day progresses and the way that might suggest something about the concept the soul. Do we limit our souls when we confine ourselves in such ways? Are our souls confined in our bodies?

    • I think it is the nature of life to be confining physically. Traditionally in many beliefs our souls are not limited by this, but I think they actually are. The environment the body is in affects the soul, over time. Not to say the environment can’t be changed and that the soul doesn’t benefit, or…vice versa. But I think body and soul, here on this earth, are intertwined and can’t be separated.
