Last week we had snow. I’ve been thinking about something I saw since then.
Grace
Imagine
skinny legs and feet
no bigger
than twigs stand
up a body half-handful
of fluffed-up feathers
skeleton
light as air and a
small stout heart
that can beat
one thousand times a minute
its engine. Sparrow
the one whose
crusty snow hops leave
not a mark
almost it’s
weightless – but make no mistake:
Never think fragile.

they are a marvel of biological engineering aren’t they. wonderful shadorma chain
Thank you. This time of year we see a lot of little sparrows and you are right, they are marvels.
You’re welcome.
A shadorma chain! Wonderful! And the birds all puffed up standing on toothpick legs – a comical look but one that has stood the test of time and evolution!
Thank you. It has been cold here the last few weeks and I have enjoyed watching the birds and how they handle things.
That was an exquisite little poem!
Thank you. In the winter I notice these little birds so much more than at other times of the year.
