Let Me Explain Something to You About How Things Are Done Here
Tread on the toes of the spirits and
find yourself cited in the endnotes
of your family history before you know it.
Is this how you want to be remembered –
the guy shelved before his time
by a dart gun from the afterlife?
Of course not. Don’t complain
about the cold spot
in the dining room
ever again.

As a nerdy family historian, this poem was a joy. I often think about how the ghosts of my ancestors might be feeling and what they may be thinking about me poking around in their business and shaking those skeletons out of the closet.
So often I think they are shaking their heads at us, how limited and outright nuts we are.
