so excruciatingly small this spider is
that any gnat would outweigh him but
he is nonchalance on eight legs
rappelling from the lamp switch
let down on an invisible filament
into a hurricane of turbulence
from the heating vent
that swings him through wild dizzy whiplash circles
each revolution the circumference of a ping-pong ball
or in his terms
more like a planetary orbit –
right here in the living room while I watch
motion-sick
huddled in my armchair.

I’ve had many a spider reverie myself. (K)
I like them. Spiders seem very orderly and efficient to me. And I like webs. Wish I could spin one myself.
I’ve tried many times to duplicate them. Can’t be done.
You are right. Even the most delicate lace is clumsy next to a web.
Those tiny spiders are indeed a marvel. The way they swing around and build webs is super impressive. I wish I had their bravery and confidence.
I like spiders. They seem very efficient and I would love to be able to spin a web or my own rapelling rope.
