I wouldn’t know because they were
kicked away
by those clattering shoes

Claudia McGill Writes Poetry, Did You Know That? 
I recently spent some time in proximity to a woman who was wearing shoes that made the noise you describe. It was driving me nuts just for the period I was near her. I don’t know how people cope with that noise all day.
Yes, clack clack slap slap all day long. I would go nuts too. I’ve retired shoes for bad floor sounds in the past. Too bad I can’t do it for others…
I had a pair that did not do well with hardwood. I was invigilating an exam when I discovered that they made a quacking noise when I walked on wood so I had to kick them off and walk around barefoot.
OMG. I love that. A quacking noise.
