No Change

For a change
I’d like to say
started off the conversation
I waited for
what he’d like to say
for a change
hoping I would not have to answer
That’s the last thing I would want
wondering if I had sat here long enough
to be ready to be let down gently
remembering the last time
when he said
Wouldn’t it be nice if
and
I replied
I’m not going to cry anymore
but I didn’t say it out loud
then
of course
and I won’t now
either.
