Feeling the raw edges of it
I think of the knife
taking the first peel of skin off the beet
the first stroke that scrapes away
the pause before the second cut.
You know how you think of it
this kind of thing
feeling the raw edges of it
with your fingers
holding the knife.

So weird! I was just peeling and chopping onions and garlic and I was thinking about how satisfying it was to peel away those rough top layers to expose the smooth surfaces beneath.
There is always that moment when you start, and you cannot go back, you must keep going, and then the marvel of how the new shape forms. I guess it could be vegs or it could a painting or the first mile of a road trip. I like that just-started moment.
