Two Ingredients
Eye-squinting low winter sunlight
Gap in the vertical blinds
the one slat missing
the next one turned askew
The light and the gap
and this result:
a strip
of bare-branch shadows
waver and shimmer
down the length of the table
and over the hand
I put out to touch them

Oh, this is lovely, Claudia! You’ve captured a special, magical moment.
Thank you. I remember writing this on in the library; one of those moments when something that is maybe annoying (the sunlight sneaking in across my paper and making it hard to see, I am aggravated all right) suddenly expands into where you see it from another persepctive. Almost as if you changed your head and got a whole new thought about it. It really strikes you. That’s how this moment was. It took me a while to get it right in writing. But worth it since I can still remember it when I read this, so well.
Your backstory makes me like the poem even more!
