Partake
I break through the crust of hard snow
stepping across the yard
my feet sinking into the soft layer
beneath
Like the spoon in the hand
the metal
cutting through the burnt sugar crust
of the crème brulée
into its sweet milky interior
The first bite
of winter
the first bite
of dessert

Creme Brulee is exactly and perfectly the description of the heavy snow we have had this winter, with the ice forming that crust we sink through.
Yes. Every year I am struck anew by how the snow behaves as it melts and evolves. There is a pattern depending on how the weather goes, and though as I get older I am less excited about snow, the newness kind of worn off a bit! I like observing it still.
