A Few New: Night Ride; Tales from a beautiful chemistry experiment

Here are a couple of poems from this week (more or less this week, anyway).

This first one is a bit wintery. A bit frosty and cold. Maybe chilling. I am not sure.

Night Ride

I drive ten miles at midnight
in icy skidding peril
How I love this haunted weather

Starless night it suits my mood
Numb toes make me giddy
I press down hard on the gas

Dim headlights scribe a circle
Snowbank reaches out for me
I throw off its glassy hand and go

Night’s black and bleached this highway
My blue-lipped grimace shakes the wheel
This old road and I laugh together

I wrench the car along the ruts
Creaks and screams from frozen slush
I don’t hear and I’ll never care

I drive ten more miles
at ten past midnight.

Here is a one that could maybe be a belated Valentine’s Day expression.

Tales from a beautiful chemistry experiment

Yes you are the best
Yes you are just perfect

I coo
and even though I am
adding zero points for the extra eye
in the middle of your forehead
no matter how useful it is. Because
I do not need its auxiliary charm
to know

One hundred percent of you
and all of it is flawless
I can never look at you enough.
I cannot describe
how much I love you.

Yes you are the best
Yes you are just perfect
for me.
