Almost grown
You still live at home
darting through
the windows
of a ceramic castle
set on pink gravel.

the quarry:
a drowned and
mineral-opaque secret.
A woman fishes.

From Unpredictable Hue, 2019.
These read like the same scene/same people/fish from different perspectives.
Yes, I didn’t write them together, being prompted by different scenes, but when I was looking over the list, I thought the same thing. Inside outside, that is what I felt.
Even when I was a child I used to wonder if people really thought fish in tanks appreciated the ornamental ruins that were supposed to compensate for nature.
My mother had fish for a long time while we were growing up (notice I don’t say we had them, they were her thing) and I thought the same thing. Are these fish really happy? Do they notice? Anything?
In a tank they just swim around aimlessly. They never seem to visit the attractions.
